I forget therefore I must
Note: This is a three channel installation piece reformatted for one screen viewing.

every night i dream
sometimes i peel the mountains
sometimes i bite the desert
sometimes i tear the trees
my nails overflowing with sticky muck that isn’t mine
i dream because i forget
i forget
i forget
i forget
therefore i must
keep mucking my nails
don’t make me wake up
to a self i don’t remember
hoy
sueño dulcemente
corto el océano
las olas rompiendo
y los pájaros graznando
tararean mi nombre olvidado
la pegajosa niebla se disipa
y regreso
hasta la próxima vez
que olvido

This installation explores the cyclical journey of remembering myself and reaching my center. Projected onto three walls in a small room, viewers would stand in the center and be surrounded by different layers and versions of myself.

After multiple attempts tainted with frustration, impatience, and a sticky mess, I wake up to the dragon fruit, a strange exotic fruit, alongside new tools: a cutting board and a knife. This allows me to the new approach of kindly and gently peeling open my layers in order to remember myself, successfully resulting in clarity and return...until the next time the sticky chaos of life obliviates me.

The voice over describes this journey, eventually transitioning to my native language (Spanish), when I remember who I am.
