THE COLLECTION
What’s in the forbidden fruit? Sweet Poison’s “Descendants of the Garden” explores the polarisation of Damage and Refuge with a lens of biblical commentary. Inspired by The Garden Of Eden, the story of humanity’s first sin being desire and temptation, this 8 look collection features conceptual silhouettes as well as evocative textile prints that reinforce a belief that clothing is a layer of skin. The inspiration of this collection originated from a solo trip to Hawaii, where the creation of this collection started with a discussion on redemption being a necessary part of salvation. “GOD DOESN’T LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU” stems from the perspective of a lover, of those who detach from unconditional love and of breaking all chains to find liberty.
“The Fruit”
Inspired by the story of The Garden Of Eden, this look was a commentary on the belief of desire being a sin. Fruits are the product of the ripening flowers, which decays in the process as the fruit matures. The flowers of lilies are a symbol of purity and innocence, which was how Eve was seen in the bible before she ate the forbidden fruit. What’s in the forbidden fruit? What’s in the flower? What’s in the tree? These three questions were asked intrinsically while designing and creating this look. The growth of desire and power of the consciousness of oneself, in contrast to the destruction of innocence, was the seed of disobedience to God in the bible. The definition of what’s good and evil could no longer be shaped by a binary standard of judgment. God, who’s believed to be the highest power, was threatened by the rebel in humanity. The flower had just started blooming in the morning mist, carrying a seed of malicious innocence planted by the serpent, an answer for Eve, she was meant to be the one to take the first bite of the fruit.
